Forest Park Jankovac with a climber’s lodge is a place that has a very interesting story. It is situated in the most beautiful part of Nature Park Papuk. In the 18th century in this area there was a glass plant which employed German glaziers. It was known as “Glassworks at Skakavac”.
“Glass Cemetery” is the proof of its existence, located above today’s climber’s lodge. At this exact spot, Count Josip Jankovic decided to develop a peaceful valley. He built a hunting lodge, created two free-flowing lakes for breeding trout and also for the Skakavac waterfalls-to have water throughout the year. Count Jankovic was buried above the lake in a 8-metre deep and 2-metre wide cave.
Jankovac is surrounded by a century-old beech forest, rich flora and fauna, and the area is extremely rich in cold springs and clear streams.
Due to the exceptional natural beauty, that can no longer be found in Slavonia, it is a favourite resort for numerous domestic and foreign lovers of nature. This unique mountain destination is available throughout the year. Particularly attractive is the “Count’s Educational Path” that was opened to public in 2006, and won the “Green Flower”(Zeleni Cvijet) award from Croatian National Tourist Board, as the best form of Croatian continental tourism.
