The thirty meters high metal sculpture was designed and executed by the American sculptor Jonathan Borofsky in 1999. Symbolically, they represent the intersection of the then three districts Treptow, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain – in the meantime, another three city quarters and two districts come together here as well.
The 30-meter sculpture stands at exactly the point where the former Berlin East and West Germany met.
The bodies of the sculptures are filled with hundreds of holes, which symbolize the molecules of all human beings – hence the name Molecule Man.
