We’re happy to present all of that in seven Exams: the charming village of Lun, popular Novalja and Zrće Beach, interesting Novalja Field, stunning Svetojanj Fortress, magnificent Ručica Beach and Žigljen.
Lun
Situated on the northernmost area on the island of Pag, Lun is a unique village with 80 thousand olive trees, some of them being over 1500 years old.
The olive groves, besides their botanical value, have charming vibes thanks to the green treetops, extraordinary olive tree trunk shapes, and roots intertwined with stones. You can ride or take a relaxing 2 kilometer walk in the groves.
To reach the groves, you might pass the small and friendly port of Lun with the wonderful promenade for cycling and views of the Adriatic and other islands like Cres and Lošinj.
We met several friendly sheep in the groves, so here’s a tip if you want to make friends with them – bring an apple. You’ll love that interaction and probably have a good laugh.
Novalja
While globally known for its legendary parties and vibrant nightlife on Zrće beach, the town of Novalja has even more to offer.
Situated on the northwestern part of the island of Pag, this lovely seaside town has beautiful sandy and pebble beaches surrounded by the pine forest and the crystal clear Adriatic.
The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, aka the Little Church, enriches the town center. Besides being built on the foundation of an early Christian basilica and medieval church, it has a floor mosaic that dates back to the 4th century, as well as 700-year-old artwork.
Although that might seem old, it’s not even close to Talijanova buža, an antique underground aqueduct built in stone in 1st century B.C.
It’s a guarantee that you’ll go through the small and friendly streets of Novalja’s center with a smile on your face.
Novalja truly has it all – from beautiful beaches and parties to incredible cultural heritage – who wouldn’t enjoy that?
Novalja Field
The northern part of the island of Pag has an incredible amount of contrast. For example, The Novalja Field is a green oasis that contrasts the rocky lunar landscape of this part of the island.
It’s a field with diverse vegetation thanks to the fertile soil and abundant fauna.
Many bike trails intertwine with stunning, nearby vineyard paths that give a quiet and peaceful experience.
We found The Novalja Field to be the perfect place for taking a break from cycling, having a snack and a refreshing beverage.
Svetojanj Fortress
Standing proud since the 6th century, this Byzantine fortress reminds us of the strategic maritime importance that the island of Pag had in the past.
Overlooking the Adriatic and the magnificent Velebit mountain range, it’s one of the most unique places to enjoy solitude and nature in its untouched form. It’s hard to believe that a place can bring so much calmness, fulfillment and raw emotions.
Svetojanj is also the name of the trail route and one of the most beautiful coves on the island of Pag. It’s definitely a trail and place you don’t want to miss.
Zrce Beach
The world’s most prominent media wrote about this beach. And for a reason. As hundreds of thousands of travelers from all around the world come to Zrće for a party of their lifetime in one of the world-leading open-air nightclubs or festivals, more and more renowned DJs perform. DJs like DJ Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, David Morales, Sean Paul, James Warren and many many more.
However, when the summer ends, Zrće becomes a calm beach surrounded by pine trees and sea view. It becomes a calm place great for stopping, taking a breath and listening to the seagulls.
Rucica Beach
This is a whole new level of ‘lost for words’. Situated in the Metajna village, Ručica Beach oversees the crystal clear sea hugged by the barren, rocky hills.
Trails surrounding the beach offer incredible views of the landscape and the sea. And you truly can feel as if you’re on the Moon. That moon-like landscape is not something you see often. Or ever actually.
This is the perfect place to enjoy the best of Moon Island in its Moon form.
Zigljen
Although a ferry port, Žigljen is a peninsula with an incredible view of the Velebit mountain range.
Connected to Novalja by an 8 kilometers long road, that ride is packed with ups and downs, drywalls, moon-like landscape, sheep herds, and various contrasting views that, once again, are another unique part of this unique island. It’s truly something you don’t want to miss!
