Bikademy: An Innovative App for Interactive Tourism Developed with Support from the NPOO Grant

The project Development of an Innovative Application for Interactive Tourism has been successfully completed as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NPOO), bringing Croatia one of the most advanced digital platforms for promoting active tourism.

The project ran from January 1, 2024, to July 1, 2025, with a total value of €98,743.96, eligible costs of €84,253.12, and approved non-refundable funding of €71,615.15. More about the call can be found here.

Key Result: Bikademy

Throughout the project, the comprehensive Bikademy mobile application was developed – an innovative digital platform that uses gamification to encourage citizens and visitors to cycle, explore natural and cultural heritage, and earn rewards.

The standout feature of the app is Challenges, which engages all types of cyclists – from recreational riders to daily commuters – and rewards top riders each month. The system tracks kilometers ridden, CO₂ saved, and number of rides, actively contributing to the promotion of sustainable mobility and healthy lifestyles.

Bikademy was developed with the aim of scaling globally, and the app is now ready for international expansion.

New Developments: Hikademy and Walkademy

In addition to Bikademy, the project also led to the development of two new applications designed for tourists and local explorers:

Hikademy – an interactive hiking app that guides users along marked hiking trails, promoting a healthy lifestyle and showcasing natural beauty.
Walkademy – a walking app, ideal for urban exploration and connecting cultural landmarks with physical activity.

Both apps apply the same principles of gamification and local discovery as Bikademy, creating a new digital infrastructure for sustainable and active tourism.

Bikademy, Hikademy, and Walkademy represent a unique fusion of technology, physical activity, and tourism – ready to be used across Croatia and beyond.
