Cycle Tourism: An Innovative Response to Climate Change
When we talk about cycle tourism, quite a few Bikademy Students cycled in Slavonia and Baranja, regions of continental Croatia.
Fun fact: The first five Bikademy Studies were in those regions thanks to the captivating nature, diverse culture, incredible gastronomy and kind hosts.
There’s a vast disbalance between tourism development in continental regions compared to development on shore and islands. However, we saw a great opportunity in Slavonia and Baranja for cycling tourism development. Why is that so? First of all, most of the roads are low traffic roads, there are many off-the-beaten-path routes, and a variety of surfaces – from classic roads and gravel to MTB trails in forests. Not to forget, the surroundings are absolutely stunning. Just look at this photo. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.
That’s why we were so excited to participate at the “Cycling tourism – an innovative response to climate change” round table. Organized as part of the project “Good climate for tourism” by Eko Brezna Association, the round table hosted experts in tourism and cycling that presented their experiences and findings to the tourism boards representatives and other professionals.
Together with Tomislav Crnac, a cyclist and an influencer, who presented cycling routes in Slavonia and Baranja with examples of how cycling affects traffic and environmental protection, we presented Bikademy as innovative solution for cities and regions in the field of cycle tourism.
During this project through research, education, communication with the stakeholders and round tables like these ones, organizers aim to create a proposal for adjustment of the tourist offer in order to achieve higher incomes and reduce the ecological footprint.
