St Nicholas’ Fortress is a unique example of a Venetian Renaissance fortification architecture at the entrance of the St Anthony’s Channel. It was built in the 16th century on the islet Ljuljevac at the site of the former abbey with the church of St Nicholas. It stands as the only Venetian military fortification entirely surrounded by the sea.
Still in its original form and with rare Renaissance architectural solutions, it stands as a unique sight inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a part of the transnational nomination.
This is the place of harmony of cultural and natural heritage with a beautiful panorama of Sibenik and the St Anthony’s Channel.
