Poreč has everything a cycling tourism destination needs: an ancient old town, the Adriatic coast, green parks, picturesque villages and the rolling landscapes of inland Istria.
In summer 2026, Bikademy transformed these attractions into an interactive cycling tourism experience by opening the new Study Poreč Region and launching three shorter Special Studies.
Developed as part of the EU-supported FU-TOURISM project, the campaign demonstrates how digital technology, gamification and rewards can encourage visitors and residents to explore a destination by bicycle.
A new way to explore Poreč by bicycle
Bikademy Studies turn destinations into interactive cycling experiences.
Instead of creating a fixed cycling route, Bikademy presents cyclists with selected places called Exams. Participants decide how and when to reach each location, cycle there and check in through the Bikademy app.
This freedom is an important part of the experience. Every cyclist can explore according to their interests, available time, fitness level and preferred type of bicycle.
The destination becomes an open-air classroom and every ride becomes an opportunity to discover something new.

Study Poreč Region: six places, one cycling adventure
The new Study Poreč Region is a permanent Bikademy cycling tourism experience connecting six locations:
- Višnjan Observatory
- Poreč Old Town
- Baredine Cave
- Santa Marina Bay
- Vrsar
- Vižinada
Together, these Exams present the diversity of the Poreč region: from historic streets and Adriatic scenery to natural attractions and the Istrian countryside.
Cyclists choose their own way to reach each location and check in through the Bikademy app. After visiting and passing every Exam, they complete the entire Study and receive the available reward.
The experience encourages visitors to stay active, spend more time exploring and discover places beyond the destination’s best-known tourist areas.
Three Special Studies in Poreč
To introduce the concept and demonstrate how enjoyable destination exploration by bicycle can be, Bikademy also launched three Special Studies in the Poreč region.
A Special Study is a shorter, time-limited cycling experience based on a particular theme. It can highlight green spaces, coastal attractions, cultural heritage or different parts of a destination.
The three Special Studies created for the Poreč campaign offer cyclists different ways to experience the area while showing destinations how the format can support seasonal promotions and targeted tourism campaigns.
The Poreč Special Studies campaign runs until 10 August 2026.

Study or Special Study: what is the difference?
| Bikademy Feature | Study | Special Study |
| Availability | Permanent | Time-limited |
| Number of Exams | Usually six or seven | Usually three |
| Experience | Broader destination exploration | Short thematic experience |
| Best suited for | Long-term destination promotion | Seasonal campaigns and special events |
| Completion | Visit and check in at every Exam | Visit and check in at every Exam |
| Reward | Defined for each Study | Defined for each Study |
Together, these two formats allow destinations to create a permanent cycling tourism product while also running shorter campaigns throughout the year.
Connecting rewards with the local destination
Rewards add another motivational layer to the Bikademy experience. However, the long-term idea is not only to reward cyclists, it is to make those rewards more connected to the destination they are exploring.
By localising rewards through partnerships with local businesses, attractions and tourism providers, destinations can encourage cyclists to discover local products, services and experiences.
Making active tourism more engaging
Cycling tourism is not only about creating and promoting cycling routes. People also need an engaging reason to start riding, visit new places and interact with the destination.
Bikademy adds this motivational layer through:
- Selected points of interest
- Mobile check-ins
- Gamification
- Freedom to choose how to reach each location
- Completion rewards
- Thematic and seasonal campaigns
- Opportunities for partnerships with local businesses
For visitors, it creates a more active and personal way to discover Poreč. For destinations, it provides a digital tool connecting tourism, local heritage, physical activity and sustainable mobility.
