Petnja Lake

Slavonski Brod
In Slavonski Brod, one of the important strategic and traffic places that controlled the most important crossing on the Sava to Bosnia and connected the main trade routes, between 1715 and 1780 the great Imperial and Royal Slavonian border fortress Brod was built. With its extensions, this baroque complex of fortifications is the largest building of its kind in Croatia, and among the largest in Europe.
Gajna
A protected landscape, Gajna is a typical Slavonian Sava valley pasture with abundant swamp animal and plant life situated east of Slavonski Brod. This landscape represents a unique example in Croatian of positive impacts of human influence on the environment, which has not only ensured supply of fresh water for cattle watering but has facilitated development of wildlife.
Vrpolje
Vrpolje is a birth place of the World known Croatian sculptor, Ivan Mestrovic. He was born in Vrpolje August 15th, 1883. After only one year, he replaced with his parents in their homeland Otavice in Dalmatia. Village Vrpolje proudly preserves the memory of this great artist.
Stara Kapela
The village is located halfway between Nova Gradiska and Slavonski Brod, on a side road to the slopes of the Pozega hill.
Until a few years ago the village was asleep at the time of modernization and forgotten. Then a handful of enthusiasts in their home region launched an initiative to preserve the place, its culture and traditions, and the village has become a unique tourist destination in Slavonia.
Cernik
Near Nova Gradiska, on slopes of Psunj hill, is Cernik. It was mentioned in late 16th century for the first time, when Croatian nobles Zrinski had built this settlement as a place of defense against the Turkish Empire. But Cernik his glory and remembrance primarily owe to Franciscan order which founded there in 1623. Franciscan parish.
Stara Gradiska
Stara Gradiska is a small town placed near river Sava. And its role in Brodsko – posavska county is small today. But it wasn’t always like that. Stara Gradiska is marked by old baroque fortress, which began to build at 1715. Unlike of those in Slavonski Brod, this fortress covered civilian settlement and because of that it belonged to one of the most significant city centres of Croatian Baroque.
Brod-Posavina County – Where “along the way” becomes final destination
